To Drive Modified
AJ Allmendinger is coming to the Berlin Raceway. The NASCAR Sprint Cup driver, who drives for King Richard Petty will make his Marne debut on Tuesday June 15th driving the RacingAwareness.com modified in a 50 lap feature event. AJ said that he was excited to race in support of the Helen DeVos Children*s Hospital Foundation, *I can*t wait to get to Berlin. It*s a track I have heard so much about. What makes this really cool is racing for the kids. This is a great cause for a great resource in West Michigan and I hope we raise a lot of money. We truly want to make this a special night; I hope I have a chance to meet a lot HDVCH families and the kids*.
Allmendinger grew up in California making a name for himself in open wheel race cars. AJ, early in his career, was considered to be one of the top go kart racers in the country. The karting experience paid off, racing in the CART Indy Car Series before moving to NASCAR, where he was a 5 time winner in 2004.
The jump to NASCAR though was a rocky one signing first with Red Bull Toyota. Now driving for Richard Petty, AJ said NASCAR took some getting used to, *It was a huge jump. I*m learning everyday and feel that as a team we have made great strides*. AJ surprised a lot of people leading the Daytona 500 this past February. He showed that was no fluke finishing 6th at Atlanta and giving King Richard his first pole as an owner since 1998 when AJ put the Valvoline Ford on the point in Phoenix.
